What to See and How to Visit the Bioparc

The Bioparc is definitely one of the must-visit attractions in Valencia, especially if you are traveling with family or want to enjoy a slightly different day. Located just north of the Ciutat Vella, it is set within the beautiful Parc de Capçalera.However, it is not just a simple zoo: the Bioparc in Valencia is a true flagship regarding the protection and preservation of animal species, with a keen focus on the well-being of its animals and a whole series of activities that help visitors understand the importance of conserving nature.Inside the Bioparc, animal habitats are perfectly reconstructed, accurately replicating the conditions found in nature. It houses over 4,000 animals from approximately 250 different species, covering an area of 100,000 square meters. The park faithfully recreates 4 distinct animal habitats:

  • African savannah houses animals such as water antelopes, ostriches, hyenas, zebras, African elephants, giraffes, and lions;
  • Equatorial forest is home to snakes, red buffalo, chimpanzees, gorillas, leopards, hippos, and turtles;
  • Wetlands and Kitum Cave this area recreates the setting of Kitum Cave, located in the Mount Elgon National Park in Kenya. In this section, you'll find crocodiles, hippos, pelicans, and some species of poisonous frogs;
  • Madagascar a section dedicated to the island of Madagascar, here you can closely observe animals such as flamingos, different species of lemurs, and pelicans.
Join the activities: the Bioparc also organizes many interesting experiences, such as the "buenos días y buenas noches" activity that allows you to admire the animals as they wake up or as they settle down for the night, or you can witness the animals' feeding times. Historical Notes and Curiosities: What to Know in Brief

The Bioparc in Valencia is now one of the most loved attractions in the city. It was built to replace the old Zoo de Valencia, which officially closed on July 31, 2007. The new park was inaugurated and opened to the public just a year later, on February 27, 2008.This zoo is much more modern and advanced compared to its predecessor and, above all, follows the principles of zoo immersion: it is the visitor who enters into the animal's habitat. Barriers have been minimized, and the environments are perfectly recreated to best simulate natural landscapes.It is a place to learn about and connect with the animal world, but also to witness truly unique events: this is where the first aardvark in Spain was born (a nocturnal mammal and the only living species of the order Tubulidentata).
