One Day Itinerary in Porto
With just one day to spare, you'll need to do a lot of walking, but you can still discover the charm and essence of Porto.
The itinerary includes main stops while excluding museums and attractions that would take too much time.
The itinerary starts from the ultimate must see in Porto: the Ribeira District, the city's main and characterful neighborhood. Here, visit the Sé, the grand cathedral, and then walk over to the beautiful São Bento Station, a true attraction! Get lost among the books and shelves of the famous Lello Bookstore and then admire the city from above at the Torre dos Clérigos.
After lunch, head to the riverbank to visit the famous Palacio da Bolsa (the guided tour lasts 30 minutes), then make your way to Igreja Monumento de São Francisco, one of the most beautiful churches in all of Portugal. Conclude the afternoon with a 6 Bridges Cruise on the Douro River (50 min), where you can sail under the famous Dom Luis I bridge.
Finally, end your day in the charming neighborhood of Vila Nova de Gaia, on the opposite bank of the Douro River. This area hosts most of the cellars and major Port producers, and the main street is lined with bars and restaurants offering panoramic views of the city!

Activities and Ideas for Alternative Itineraries
If you love art, in the afternoon, instead of the Palacio da Bolsa, we recommend visiting the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis (€8.00), home to one of the most important art collections in the city. The visit will take a few hours. If you love photography, you can find the Centro Portugues de Fotografia (free) in the historic center.
If you are fond of religious architecture, you are in the right place: along with the churches already mentioned, you should also visit the Igreja do Carmo (€3.50) and the Igreja das Carmelitas (free). Don't miss the visit to the Igreja da Misericordia (€6.00, including internal museum).
If you've perhaps already been to Porto or want to immerse yourself in the countryside rather than stay in the city, we recommend exploring the Douro Valley, with a wine tasting and lunch from Porto. The excursion lasts around 9 hours.
If you are traveling with family, in addition to the boat ride on the river and the bookstore, a must in the afternoon is a visit to the Jardim do Palacio de Cristal (free), the most loved green space in the city, not far from the center.
