Fantasy lovers, those who cherish breathtaking locations that frame scenes of wars, struggles for the throne, intrigue, and betrayal, will undoubtedly be familiar with the wonderful series produced by HBO "Game of Thrones". In the war between the Seven Kingdoms, some cheer for the beautiful Daenerys Targaryen, mother of dragons, or the valiant Robb Stark, accompanied in his battles by his loyal direwolf Grey Wind, while others believe the throne should remain with the Baratheon family, and a few might even root for the mad king Joffrey or, much more likely, for his uncle Tyrion Lannister!

But everyone is captivated by the stunning landscapes of the North, or the red lands where the queen of the Dothraki is gathering her army. Who isn't enchanted by the magnificence of the Red Keep or the realm of Winterfell? But where are these mystical, dark, foreboding, or magnificent places located?

Do you want to go on a "filming" tour?! Follow us, let's go to...

Belfast is the production headquarters of the TV series, where many scenes were filmed:

  • Winterfell, with interiors of the Stark kingdom: Paint Hall Studios
  • King's Landing, Red Keep: Paint Hall Studios
  • House Stark: Ward Castle, County Down
  • Black Castle, home of the Night's Watch: Quarry in Magheramorne, County Antrim
  • The Wall: Quarry in Magheramorne, County Antrim
  • Iron Islands, realm of the Greyjoys: Quarry in Magheramorne, County Antrim

  • King's Landing: Fort Ricasoli, a fortification that stands on the promontory of Gallows Point from the late 1600s, previously seen in films such as Troy, Gladiator, and Agora
  • Interior of the realm: Mdina, where the intrigues of some of the King's enemies develop as they live at court and want to dethrone him

Croatia

This magnificent land will be the setting for the fourth season; locations like Novigrad, in Istria, with its walls and medieval urban plan, are the perfect backdrop for the bloody struggles that will ensue among the various clans.

  • King's Landing (from season two onward): Dubrovnik
  • City of Qarth: Lokrum Island, where the mother of dragons is hosted with the real intention of seizing her children... who will show for the first time what they are truly capable of!

Morocco

And staying within House Targaryen, we can say that the land of Khaleesi, queen of the Dothraki and mother of dragons, is Morocco.

  • Astapor, "bay of the Slavers": Essaouira, with its port, bazaars, and white houses

Iceland

It is here that you will meet the Others, it is here that the Crows guard the Wall against the giants, who live in the Land of Eternal Winter. And what better place than Iceland to recreate these icy scenarios! Jon Snow and his brothers will fight against giants, the Others, and... the cold.

  • Battles between the Night's Watch and the Others: Lake Myvatn, near the Hverfell Crater, and Skaftafell National Park, where the largest glacier in Europe is located. In these places, actors, directors, and technicians had to "freeze their butts off," battling the cold and the brief daylight they had available to film the stunning scenes of the Night's Watch.

Scotland

Other pilot scenes of the series and of Winterfell, the Stark kingdom, were filmed at Doune Castle and its surroundings, located in Stirling. This castle has also been the set for other films such as "The Holy Grail". This place lends itself well to mystical and ancient situations!

So have a good trip and get ready because... "winter's coming", or rather... winter is here!
